Topic: How far is China from emerging as a fashion center?

Introduction:

Although many people in the fashion world consider China as a retail market only,some Chinese designers are striving to shine in the international fashion community. However,it will depend on multiple successful factors so that the country will become a fashion center internationally. This essay is going to have a further look at this question through several main factors,such as fashion brand, designers and designer ideas,consumption idea,etc.


Main body:


A. Fashion brand

1)Brand is a intangible sum of the name, characteristics, packing, price, history, reputation, advertising of the product. In fact,many famous international brands tell people the legend behind their brands:centuries-old cultural continuity,beautiful story of the brand,unique individual character,etc. Situation in China: brand is degenerating into label.


2)China is the biggest producing,consumption and export country,but has no international brand.

Fashion product is a special kind of product which would be worthless without a brand. Running thoughts of positioning the product on a international brand is of vital importance.


B. Designers & design ideas

1)Designers

    1. A collection of international masters

    2. Indigenous designers.

      Although China still lacks of world-top designers,there is a small number of excellent designers in Hong Kong. Chinese designers are at the stage of learning. Some of them have strong ability of creativity and other abilities,what they need is to run into the interaction between company and designer,also between designer and market.

2)Design ideas

    1. Absorb international cultures from fashion cities like Paris,Milan,London,New York,etc. Cultural exchanges are a way of developing design ideas. Keep comprehensive mind-set.

    2. Chinese traditional culture with a long history can be combined with western culture. Some of the designers have made a success by doing this. Oriental culture is unique,we just need a unique way to present it.


C. Consumption idea

China owns a large market of consumption,how to attract the consumers should obey the following points. Fashion contains two kinds of meaning:First,it is a reaction of current prevalent culture of society and people's life style. Second,it should aim at aesthetic value. Both of them are closely related to the thoughts of consumers.

1)Awareness to the society and living conditions,more ethical:global warming,over exploitation,impacts on environment, etc.

2)Economy & Politics influence:financial crisis.


Conclusion

China has the potentiality to be a fashion center because of advantages like marketing and unique culture. It may take a long time for us to try hard,but it will be worth.

1.Modern lifestyles and consumerism rely heavily on and are influenced by wider fashion trends. Two important industries that underpin fashion markets are textiles and clothing.

2.China,Pakistan and India have the largest number of people employed in the textile sector.

3.China's clothing exports to the USA stood at just around $9b in 1990,$25b in 1995 and rose to $70b at the end of 2005.
