Peng's Home work
Science and technology brings huge transformation to several aspects of the world. Since the first and second industrial revolution from the 18th to the19th century, productivity had been increased tremendously via the application of mechanical installation. Economic application of electricity rapidly expedites the industrialization all over the world. The third revolution, happened in the late 19th, is also known as information revolution, or digital age. It developed automation that allowed labor’s working environment more comfortable. Moreover, innovations during this period made the communication among people more convenient. Science and technology may affect other aspects as well, for instance, culture, life style, and health and education. Actually, when benefit has been brought by the development of science and technology, disadvantages also occurred at the same time.
The aim of this essay is to describe the effect that caused by technology focusing on three different aspects, environment, culture and the quality of life. In each part, both advantage and disadvantage will be described separately.
2. The impact of first industrial revolution
From the 18th to mid-20th century, industrial revolution, the major changes in agriculture and social sciences. Creativity rapidly accelerates the development of human.
Innovation is basic of human development. During the industrial revolution the appearance of new machines brings many benefits to human life. It has an unimaginative influence to human’s daily life. For instance, in eighteenth century, Jethro Tull who is a British, improve the seed drill (a device for sowing seeds effectively) increasing the productivity on agriculture liberating the labor from the field to work in the new industrial factories. Labor from rural place to urban, it provides labor with more conveniences in their daily life. The development in market leads to assemble goods people have more convenience to transaction for their vital commodity.
The development not only made changes in technical innovation but also in social sciences. Take economics for example, in the 18th century, Adam smith’s The Wealth of Nations developed the new economic theory. His classical political economic theory “invisible hand (the theory of production, distribution and exchange of goods in a market)” is the basic theory, which the contemporary economists have held.
The technology development frees the farmer from the land work to mill. To help them get high level life quality. The new theory makes the development social science, the new policy lead to the efficient allocation of scarce resources.
3. the impact of second industrial revolution
In second industrial revolution the chemical industries, electrical industries and automotive industries had a gradually growth. But the major affection of the electric age was society and culture.
The application of electrical equipment reduces the distance between people lead to increase of information transmission speed. Marshall McLuhan analyzed that the social and cultural impact of the electric age, made a special view that is “global village”. This had major impact on the communication and educational theory.
4. The negative impact on environment and culture
Although quick development benefits people, it also brings many harmful affect on human. Especially, environment and culture be harmfully influenced by quick development.
The use of steam power consumes substantial coal and the appearance of internal combustion engines during industrial revolution had almost destroyed the environment. To conflagrate fossil fuel causes critical air pollution. The emission of harmful gas such as, sulfur dioxide, carbon monoxide had been damaged mankind. For instance, in 1952, pollutants from factories and home fireplaces mixed with air condensation killed at least 4,000 people in London over the course of several days.
The transport industry had a large change, the appearance of railway were allocated production factors effectively. Whilst it also enhanced communicate between mankind. Efficient allocation of resources accelerated the industrialization. The ship industrial expends the European activity area from inshore to the other continents.
The demand of cheap labor force during the industrial development promoted the slave trade to the peak in the late 18 century. Europeans relied on advanced weapons and shipping technology making the largest number of Africa residents become slave. Ronald Segal (1995) assumed that there were about 12 million Africans were transport to the Americas from the 16th to the 19th centuries. This kind of events almost destroyed the culture of Africa.
We are in digital age (also be known as information age), the development of internet and computer leads to people absorb mass information. People surfing on the internet they acquiesce in spam. For instance, someone suffer the bomb of junk mail and the junk advertisement. Furthermore, the abundant pornographies and violence pictures on website lead to harmful influence on the psychology of teen-agers.
Tremendous development produce the enormous impair on nature and culture. The emission of noxious gas has been killed thousands of life. Avarice and depredation has injured innocent life. The psychology problem is filled in this age.
5. Summary
Human’s innovative capability makes lots changes of life. Industrial revolution brings some negative impact on environmental and culture. However it brings lots of benefits to mankind.
Indeed, innovation brings convince to our life broaden human knowledge reduce the distance between every one increase the productivity.
It is hard to balance the positive and negative influence with the development.
Technology development results in many aspects of human life and social science. It brings harmful influence on nature world furthermore, social science development coupled with technological development. With the quick development human need to concern the negative effect. To extinct the influence on natural and culture. Avoid damaging the nature and culture, moreover, human can be developed staidly.

Abstract
Japan is one of the economic leading countries, Japanese companies can seen everywhere in the world. Hence, compared with other developed countries, the rate of foreigners’ population in Japan is low. Non Japanese right does not seem to weigh an important part, but it has been discussed after the Cold War. The Democratic Party of Japan proposed the statement last year, it included that foreigners with permanent residence are given the local suffrage. The proposal is causing a lot of criticisms. This essay will discuss about the local voting right to people who have ‘special’ permanent residence. First, I will introduce general information of special permanent residents. Then, I will focus on the argument both sides ‘for’ and ‘against’. Finally, I will analyze the situation which Japan faces now, and give some suggestion of the right which they should have.
Introduction
Japan has seemed to be a homogeneous nation because of the small number of foreigners. There are 2,217426 foreigners living in Japan, it accounts for 1.74 percent of population in 2008. 41.1 percent of them are people who have the qualification which is able to residence permanently, and their population is increasing (Ministry of Justice, 2008). However Japan has enjoyed ethnic and national minorities, such as the Ainu in Hokkaido, Ryukyu in Okinawa, and Korean since before Meiji era. During Japan had been colonizing East Asian countries; Korea and Taiwan, a large number of colonized people were brought to Japan. They and their descendants have been living in Japan although the WWII ended. These people are called Zainichi, given the special permanent qualifications, which are treated well than the normal permanent qualifications. The population of them was 492,056 in 2008, the people who have Korean nationality was 99 percentage points (Ministry of Justice). They still have some restrictions in society, the biggest concern is the right to vote, and they have been insisting that Japanese government should promulgate them the local voting right. And DPJ expressed their insistence by promoting the statement. In the next paragraph, the reason to have the suffrage to them will be mentioned.

Kelly's Introduction
Modern technology breaks through the geographic barrier, and makes the internet available for everyone. Since the 1990s, the pace of economic globalization has been growing at a staggering rate. The economic globalization brought with the exchange of technology and information between different countries, it broaderns the scope with which people communicate immensely, we are easier to connect with people from different races, religions and cultures. As a result, the traditional values and cultures are being changed. At the same time, the Transnational Corporations build their companies everywhere, to some extent, they create a new world culture and contribute to the global cultural homogeneity. People become aware that the global culture is coming close to us. More and more people think that since we are now living in a global village, we should abandon our traditional culture and accept global cultural homogeneity. This essay will describe the global culture and take consideration of the positive and negative effects of global cultural homogeneity.
Kelly's Summary
This is a summary. The article is about how global companies use global corporate culture to operate themselves in a given country or region. This article is from BusinessWeek’s website. A big challenge for global companies now is to create a single global corporate culture and meanwhile give local leaders the flexibility to localize the way the company operates in a given country or region. The writer used the example of Mara Swan (global HR of Manpower Inc.) created a framework of operational principles for global operations to show that there are some global companies succeeded in using global corporate culture. A part from that, the writer used two examples-HP and Perez de Alonzo to give a brief explanation about the global management training programs these two companies launched. At last, the writer expressed his opinion-he was looking forward to see how global corporate culture worked in the future.

The article told that American students didn't read so much for pleasure as before, but for information, enlightenment or practical advice. It influences the basic reading comprehension skills in some way. Though the parents, teacher and librarian's reading a lot may become influential, reading books is a relatively private act, and some just didn't get the right book at the right time to transform them into book lovers. Reading is so exciting that one can find himself and discover the unknown world even when someone may getsimilar experience in narrative and vivid characters in TV show or films. But with a highlylower budget than other medias, books are still quite welcomed by large group of people.
Introduction
Reading is always considered to be one of the essential abilities for people to deeply understand themselves and others co-existing in the world. But the students in universities now tend to read much less than before. Reading has become less popular among youth group in campus. There are too many other attractions to consume the spare time. And even they are reading, it's more for exams and essays rather than forpleasure. The true value of books should be reconsidered serioussly. Reading not only brings the exciting experience of walking into an imagenary world and meeting various personalities, but also provides the lucky readers with remarkable chances to communicate with masters. It's books that bring people together and convey human civilization generation by generation.
Galen's homework
Environmental has become one of the main problems of urbanization, in the path of sustainable development has become the risk. However, people all over the world are thinking the policy to solve this problem. In UK, transport policy becomes the main policy, they allow the privatization of some public facilities, reset the new prices and new methods of rational use the land and same time. So as to effectively control the traffic generated as a result of the pollution of the environment.
2. Introduction
In order to provide a favorable environment to our later generations, economic development could not ignore the social and environmental factors. Defined by the ‘WORLD COMMISSION ON ENVIRONMENT AND DEVELOPMENT’ as: ‘development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs’. (Gilpin, A. 1996)
Therefore, sustainable development will have been a concern topic, which, urbanization has become particularly important.
Urbanization is the process of city growth; the term usually means that the increase in urban population, resulting in domestic economic growth and immigration, as well as the expansion of the urban space.
(Thomas, R. D. & Melvin, G. M. 1972)
In the issue of urbanization, there were a lot of problems, as follows:
*High unemployment rate
*Poverty
*Poor quality and overcrowded housing
*Failing transport, water supply and sewage systems
* Education
* Population increasing
*Eenvironment pollution and health (Bilham-Boult, A., 1999)
In the above-mentioned issues, we can see that the issue of population and housing is associated. For example, in China, population about 1.4 billion, and in this social, every people want got a large house, however, it is impossible to realize in China. So, that is why overcrowded housing will become the problem of urbanization. On the other hand, we also see the issue of the environment. In this article, it will be descript and focused on the impact of the environment in urbanization, and show some problems about pollution of urbanization issues. Then make the corresponding solution be met by a policy of sustainable development. Use the good way like transport policy in UK to analysis and evaluation that issue.
3. Summary
Transport is a very important source of most of the pollutants. For example, in the UK more than one million people have been road noise more than 70 A-weighted decibels (dB (A)), and around 15 meters to more than 60 (dB(A)) (Mauch and Rothengatter, 1995). ‘Transportation accounted for 55 percent of nitrogen oxides, 72 percent of carbon monoxide, volatile organic compounds 41%, and 26 percent of the particulate,’ (Department of the Environment, Transport and the Regions (DETR), 1998 l); it is the dominant mode of road transport is responsible for virtually all emissions.
The impact of these external conditions vary, from a purely local, in the take from the land, destruction of property, noise and air pollution from local, regional, such as acid rain and its impact on wildlife, forests, and buildings, as well as the world's greenhouse gases, such as emissions. It is true that the use of catalytic converters is now to reduce all of the new European Union resulting from the new best way to air pollution. (Chris, N. 2000). However, ‘the situation regarding greenhouse gases continues to worsen. In 1996, transport accounted for 26 per cent of carbon-dioxide emissions, and these emissions were projected to increase by at least a third by 2020.’ (DETR, 1998l). Therefore it is clear that the transport sector is the manufacturer of an impact on the environment is cause for concern.

Let the Greek ruin themselves
When euro became currency of 11 European countries in January 1999, members of euro erea said they were not already, because the high debt and deficit.
Greece was facing a serious deficit problem which scared other high-debt countries. If the euro organisation wants to defy the euro's founding treaty, euro will stay in pain.However,Germany, the biggest economy and borrower, was quite reluctant to give help hand.
Many individuals and organisations in Germany were against to the rescue,such as FDP,CDU.
A welfare system named Hartz IV seems costly, and because of this system, the age of retirement of Greek would be 63.
Greece was forced to have a new aim that to cut the deficit which equals 8.7% of its GDP by 2010.This harsh plan was expected to threaten speculators.
Germany made an important role in euro's trade and currency, this rescue might offend it as Germany had said it would never pay for other countries' management choas.
The prospective was unclear,some experts suggested that Germany could do the long-term assistance by stimulating the domestic comsumption.

Introduction
Nowadays, more and more people have realized that pressure is a necessary element for a society to advance. However, a few people still argue that pressure shouldn’t be a necessary effect of a society. This essay will discuss the link between pressure and society advance, and show that pressure definitely could accelarate the pace of social advance.
Pressure is made up of different kinds of negative impacts on a society. It can be divided into various aspects, for example increasing demand of people in a society could be seen as a kind of pressure. All the different kinds of pressure together affect on a society, accelerate it or even destroy it. While sociologists were trying to find the correlation between pressure and society, this issue has derived a few debates in these years, such as a wide-range debate about human right which is attributable to the one-child policy in China and a few countries.

A famous British psychologist Robert Holden said: "We all have a 'happiness set point', but it is not associated with our bank balance." Most of people spend their time on perusing to be richer, powerful and successful. The purpose of it is no more than make them to be satisfactory to their life. However, a survey which conducted by American reporter shows that there are more than half of the American are not happy nowadays even their average salary are 3 times more than 20 years ago. What are the factors that contribute to that? What is the correct definition to “satisfaction”? In this essay, my purpose is to analyze the reasons of this problem. Then, the importance of the both sides to us will be discussed.
Summary
Article: Money Doesn't Make People Happy
Oswald (professor at Warwick University) said the countries have no need to become richer if they filled the larders already. Also, more and more economists are interest about “what makes us happy?” economists made a survey which compares data on wealth, education and marital status with the results of happiness. The investigators expand their range from personal to countries. The result shows that if a person or a country is very rich already, higher salary or income won’t make those people happier a lot than before. However, Will Wilkinson (a policy analyst at the Cato Institute in Washington D.C., who runs a blog on happiness research and public policy. ) pointed out that we cant make the relationship between money and happiness clearly. Richer people are tend to control more and to be richer. So, not only one factor drives to this consequence, but many of different factors. Some of advises suggest that getting married will be happier. A survey show the happy people can find their soul mate than depressed people. Both Oswald and Richard Layard both think that relationship is more important than money. Oswald also thinks if you are depressing now, why don’t you just wait and you may became happier in future. Danny Kahneman (the only psychologist ever to win the Nobel Prize in economics) investigated the feeling of 1000 working women. The result shows they thought their jobs are miserable. The happiest time is hanging out with their friends rather than company your spouse.

Vera's homework (new proposal)
Abstract
A program of Project Prevention——a US based organisation, which pays money to women who addicted to drugs and alcohol in order to stop them being pregnant. As the program becoming successful and the organisation receiving more funds, criticism has been rising around the America.
Therefore, this essay will take consideration of whether the drug addicts should be paid to get sterilisation or not——from the aspects of the organisation, the drug addicts and society.
Firstly, it will be introduced in the essay about the background of the Project Prevention. Then, it will analyse whether the organisation should pay drug addicts to get sterilisation from different respects. Finally, it will give conclusions of the proposal and feasible suggestions for the organisation and drug addicts.
Introduction
Drug and alcohol addicts will be paid if they are willing to get sterilisation——under a program called CRACK ( Children Requiring a Caring Kommunity) founded by a US based organisation:Project Prevention. The organisation which started in 1997 by a housewife and a former waitress named Barbara Harris in Orange County, California, after she adopted four children from the same drug-addicted mother. " Children born to drug addicts regularly suffer emotional scars and medical disabilities and end up in foster care at taxpayers' expense," she said. (The New York Times, Jan. 6,2003) The main objective of the organisation is to reduce the number of substance exposed births to zero. Since the programe was started, 3,242 drug addicts received their mony for sterilisation. Most of them were women and almost half of them were permanently sterilised. Also, there were 35 men who have had vasectomies. Critics has been rising about ethical concerns of this porgrame. Therefore, this essay will analyse the benefits and the critics of the CRACK programe in different aspects and then it will give suggestions of a better way to treat drug addicts.
Benefits of the CRACK Program
——Stopping children from suffering physical and mental illness;
——Stopping drug-addicted parents from breaking their hearts because they can raise their children;
——Encouraging drug addicts to give birth after they get rid of drugs and alcohol;
——Saving taxpayers' money
Critics of the CRACK Program
——Hitleresque eugenics and discrimination: drug addicts also have right to give birth;
——Drug addicts may rather use the money they get from the organisation to buy more drugs than pay for treatments;
——Public funding should be used in a more effective way to treat drug addicts
Conclusion
——The programe does help lots of people to get rid of drugs and alcohl, and reduce the births of unhealthy children;
——Ethical concern: drug addicts shouldn't be prevented from giving birth;
——The organisationg should work out a better way to stop drug users spend the sterilisation money on more drugs and help drug-addicted parents to get rid of drugs , so they can be with their children.

Kamil Essay Plan
Thesis: While many believe that OPEC influences oil prices, research shows that in many ways the influence of the organization is minimal in the actual prices charged for oil while the current high level oil prices are based not on OPEC but simple supply and demand among other non-OPEC influenced factors.
Body
OPEC and Oil Prices
-The organization has two annual meetings to coordinate oil produces based on the market and concepts including supply and demand.
-The organization does not “set” oil prices.
-As OPEC nations produce near half of the world’s oil the decisions related to production, not prices, can in turn impact the price of oil.
-OPEC sets the oil production quotas to gain stability in the market for the consumers and producers. Such efforts might include increasing production to prevent a major rise in oil prices.
The Diminishing Role of OPEC
-OPEC conferences have had a major impact on oil prices in the past.
-However, research has shown that the role of OPEC has decreased over time due to factors such as oil being available from non-OPEC source.
-Research has shown that the meetings of OPEC have had a weak impact on subsequent market developments related to oil.
What Accounts for the Oil Prices?
-Several factors play a role in oil prices that again OPEC does not set.
-Market fundamentals that have a major impact on the price of oil include supply and demand.
-Financial markets and decision-makers/speculators also impact the price of oil based on their predictions of oil prices.
-Numerous additional external factors play a role in the cost of oil including taxes, marketing efforts, etc.
-World events including wars and political fears/threats have also led to oil price increases despite lack of evidence that such issues would adversely affect the ability to gain oil.
Why Oil Prices Should Be Stable
-There are several compelling arguments as to why oil prices should be stable such as the price being affected by factors such as speculators who make money based on the price changes.
-Speculation can affect the prices more so than competition. In fact, with the case of the 1973 oil crisis the problem was less about supply of oil than it was about speculation.
-Even if the cut of oil production that leads to lowering of inventories and thus higher prices occurs due to OPEC, there has been an increase in oil production of non-OPEC nations.
-In fact, despite the fact that OPEC does have an estimated two thirds of the world’s oil reserves it currently makes up only and estimated thirty-five percent of the oil production.
-As a result of the numerous producers of oil, it can be argued that such production should lead to stable prices.
The Current Oil Prices: Too High
-The current price of oil can be deemed to high as several factors, not related to supply and demand, are playing a role in the high cost.
-Two major non-supply and demand factors contributing to the high price of oil include the nationalization in Venezuela, a major oil producer, and concerns over the nuclear program of Iran.
-Some believe that OPEC, through its production decisions, has made efforts to keep oil prices under $30 per barrel.
-Many believe that there is a larger supply of oil than most contend and that due to its abundant nature should cost much less than the current price per-barrel.
The Effects of High Oil Prices
-High oil prices lead to lower demand.
-High oil prices can lead to effects in other financial realms such as the stock market and global economy.
-The high cost of oil might lead to more efforts towards conservation as well as increase the motivation to find alternative energy forms.

Describe situation of china’s corporations in the world
china just famous for “Made in china”
Chinese government wanted the corporations “independent innovation”
I think it’s time for Chinese companies to transfer from counterfeit to independent innovation
First part:
Today, lots of Chinese companies are still counterfeiting and it became a culture in china.
It’s the biggest joke
Some firms called their counterfeiting as ”independent innovation”
Chinese companies need “independent innovation” to compete with foreign brands
Second part
Weakness of counterfeit.
People won’t like counterfeiting products anymore ,those products will be obsolete
Hard to survive in financial crisis
impossible to make a famous brand
Third part
Strengths of the independent innovation
Get support from government
Innovation makes the sustainable development
Avoid to drop in the price war
Fourth part -Opposition
High cost of independent innovation
Not every firms have the ability of “independent innovation”
“Counterfeiting is a kind of learn”
Response
“Learn” is just a beautiful reason to cover the counterfeit
Counterfeit is the way to death
Conclusion
Maybe we need a Chinese characteristics strategy for Chinese companies which could be “mix the independent innovation& counterfeit” whatever, counterfeit is not the long-term way for Chinese corporations. They need to change, especially in such a global economic environment.The best pathway for Chinese brands to the world is to get independent innovation as soon as possible

2. Negative opinions about this argument
High pressure leads to low creativity (e.g. high pressure makes people too busy)
High consumption of energy leads to pollution
Increasing population leads to resource scarcity
Analyzing data to explain information above
3. Positive opinions for this argument
Increasing population doesn’t really make a extreme situation (e.g. fast growth of China)
Pollution puts a positive pressure on countries (e.g. development of new energy)
Scarcity of resource awakes people’s awareness to protect environment (e.g. Plants protecting Law in UK)
4. Look at a society, describe the growth in a general way, and try to find out the correlation between advance of society and pressure.
