Article: Money Can Buy Happiness, Study

Researchers from the University of Nottingham proved the old saying that “money can’t buy happiness” is wrong. They pointed out that money even can buy love. Because they find out the most of lottery jackpot winners got married but they were single before they won money. This research also found that money brought with it financial stability and security. Additionally, winners also express that they are able to spend more time with their family contributed to their happiness while buy or do something they like. Compared to non-winners, winners represents they are happier than before. After won lottery, the winners had huge materially change. Majority of them moved into larger properties and go for holidays overseas. Dr Richard Tunney (Psychology Lecturer at The University of Nottingham) pointed out that traditional family values, a comfortable home and financial security are clearly key elements to a happy life. Its may be true that money can’t buy your happiness, but money can influence your sense of happiness in some aspects.

These two articles illustrate two oppositional opinions. The first article is written by Tim Harford, which express that money cant buy happiness. He got result from the many investigations that did in a range of countries. The result shows people won’t feel happier even they have higher salary, because they tend to have more. But the second essay said money can almost buy everything even love. The writer of second article Tunney uses an example to prove that most people feel happier after they became richer. Additionally, some of the respondents have marriage after they oppose wealth. The first article pointed out that if you are very rich already, then more money can’t bring you more satisfaction. However, the latter one said that most of respondents change their material living like move into bigger house and drive new car, which makes them happier than before. However, another article holds the opposite opinion as I just mentioned before.
