CLAIRE'S HOMEWORK

Fast food culture
Probably in hundred of years ago, nobody even imaged that people will finish each of their meal within ten minutes or less. Actually, fast food already became a sign of our modern lifestyle. The development of fast food can be traced back to America. The first revolution of fast food happened in 1902. A great quantity of fast food chains swarm into global market: Clarence Birdseye(1920), white city (1930), McDonalds (1940), Kentucky Fried Chicken(1950)…. The AC Nielson Group is an international research organization made a survey recently, which shows 35% of Americans eat fast food at least one time monthly. However, 41%of Chinese have same habit. This report illustrates fast food restaurants are popular in global rather than in western countries. Obviously, fried chicken, potato mush and hamburgers are not the best food from USA. Whereas, they just convey a convenient lifestyle to those people who thirsty for lazy and uncomplicated life. Fast food really solves many problems in modern society. But it also changes our life even culture through many negative ways.
Less time consuming may be the most important reason that people prefer have fast food instead of traditional food. Because we can not lose the sight of fact that people have less time to enjoy their meal in modern society. Furthermore, the dishware that fast food restaurant supplied is also helpful to save time. For example, McDonald always provides paper packages and one-off stuff to customers, which aid consumers save both washing and cooking time. Actually, those facilities and dishware are also humanistic and considerate to consumers. Like appropriate tissue and tomato source, service of delivery and so on. Moreover, majority of fast food restaurants opens 24hours everyday, which provides warm and fragrant service to public. Consequently, fast food, to some extent, is the result of high-competition society and reflects the modern culture nowadays.
Hegel (1770-1831, a philosopher of the nineteenth century) said: “Only in the state does man have a rational existence”. So fast food restaurants must have their own key to be successful. Actually, fast food can satisfy the people’s needs to be full immediately and also fresh. Because the passenger flaw volume to snack bars are huge everyday, which make manufactures to grantee the freshness of foods. Consequently, customers can eat in peace.
At the first level of another hand, compared with traditional food, fast food provides less necessary nutrition that human need. Since the material of fast food is comparatively simple and monotonously, which means the elements of nutrition may in seriously shortage. The worse thing is, fried foods may cause many serious sicknesses to us. Like high blood pressure, ill effects of Cholesterol and unhealthy lifestyle. On the other sides, in ancient china, chief always add planet medicine and some portions of animals into dishes to cure or prevent diseases. However, in the society nowadays, it’s hard to find old traditional food restaurants. But fast foods restaurants, to some extent, become the common sign on the street of approximately every country.
"Now, it is a high time to revive the culture of traditional Food - 'The wisdom of our Grandmothers' Bebe di Rasoi"( A traditional food festival which held by The Chandigarh Press Club in collaboration with Kheti Virasat Mission (KVM) and Millets Network of India (MINI)), said Badal. The group which suffered most impact from fast foods might be those young teens. A new report from MINNEAPOLIS (An University of Minnesota) describes that in 2,500 Minnesota adolescents, 33% of them eat fast food three or more than times a week. It is sad to witness people especially teenagers sitting in the MacDonald and eating trash foods. But the reason maybe that society brings too little knowledge about the harm of fast foods to teenagers. Therefore, some traditional food festival can be held yearly. Those festivals can taught teenagers the danger of fast food and propose us to get traditional food back.
At a deeper level, fast food also reveals a kind of pathetic lifestyle of the people in modern society. Some people have no accessibility to a delicious and nutritious lunch. Whatever they are boss or poor people. Apparently most of us know the danger and the awful consequence it took. However, we still pay for it to kill ourselves because we really have no time for eating. Consequently, the meal time instead by those convenience food when we enjoying the advanced and convenient life,. Not only fast food, but also electronic books, dictionary…… The popularity of such products represents the lost of old culture. It is the time for us to stop and thinking how many benefits we can get from this modern society actually.
In my opinion, traditional foods are irreplaceable. Not only that traditional food contain huge amount of alimentation, but also can represent an image of particular country. Many ways can be taken to rescue and prevent us from being overweight and trophic disturbance. For instance: holding traditional food festivals or developing educational lessons about diet in schools. However, fast food chains won’t disappear eventually because it is the products under the high competition of modern society.

It is irresistible and undeniable that fast food took huge benefits to our life, especially in this busy and competitive society. But with this tendency become strongly, traditional food and eating style may be vanished I future, which means a part of our culture and will be killed and disappear forever. Consequently, this result would be sorrow fully to human beings. Because in this era, too many old things dead with the development of new technology.
